Which Body?

2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Ephesians 4:4

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

The word “body” has many definitions.  In 2 Corinthians 5:10, Strong’s #4983 defines body as “used in a very wide application”.

First look at 2 Corinthians 5:10, and remove the italics.  Italics are not scripture but an addition made by the King James translators to make the flow of or the reading of easier.  So, without the italics;  “ For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things in body, according to that he hath done, whether good or bad.  My question was how do I define this word “body”.  Is it the physical body or as per Ephesians 4:4a; “There is one body” the body of Christ, the Church of which upon belief the believer is placed into by the Holy Spirit as seen in 1 Corinthians 12:13.

In Ephesians 4:4 the “one body” by context is seen as the “body: of Christ.  I know this because of what I read in Ephesians 1:23, 2:16, 3:6,  4:4, 4:12, 4:16, 5:23 and 5:30.  In those passage we clearly see the word “body” to define different aspects:  i.e. His, Christ’s physical body, His spiritual body and believers as the body, the church.

One must rightly divide [2 Timothy 2:15] scripture to receive the correct meanings of the context of the words being given.  The writer of Hebrews 5:14 tells us ”But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

Believe God

Galatians 2:16  Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV): “ K nowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Why is it so hard for man just to believe God?   Most don’t even believe that He is.   “But without faith  it is  impossible to please  him:  for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and  that  he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6.   All God has ever wanted from man was just to be believed.   But as with Adam and Eve in the garden; “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”   2 Corinthians 4:4.   Why the ...

Rightly divided or handling ???

  2 Timothy 2:14-16     Authorized (King James) Version:   “ Of these things put  them  in remembrance, charging  them  before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit,  but  to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane  and  vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” There is in the military a directive that when one receives conflicting orders one will follow the last order given.   Really that makes a lot of sense to one who has sense, but therein lies the rub. Background:   the phrase above in verse “15” reads “rightly dividing the word of truth”.   Modern versions will read “rightly handling” instead of “dividing”.   Those two words have different meanings as seen in Hebrews 4:12 “even to dividing asunder”.   If a person d...

Risen? really; who said.

1 Corinthians 15:17 [AKJV]:   " And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins." When questions are asked of others, like;   "Why do you think you are saved?" or "Where will you go when you die?".   "How do you have assurance of eternal life?".   When I ask these and other questions concerning one's eternal condition I will get a multitude of replies.   Although to many to write out here but the number one response is generally that "Jesus died for our sins."   Very seldom is the reply followed with and arose the third day.   The gospel that we are saved by to day is mostly incomplete when witnessed to others.   The resurrection is also important as given by Paul to us today.   "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, un...
