2 Timothy 2:14-16 Authorized (King James) Version: “Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”
There is in the military a directive that when one receives conflicting orders one will follow the last order given. Really that makes a lot of sense to one who has sense, but therein lies the rub.
Background: the phrase above in verse “15” reads “rightly dividing the word of truth”. Modern versions will read “rightly handling” instead of “dividing”. Those two words have different meanings as seen in Hebrews 4:12 “even to dividing asunder”. If a person doesn’t have the right Bible one's whole understanding will not be “rightly dividing the word of truth.” Now it may be there are those who’s intent is not to rightly divide or understand but to divide the body if they are assumed to be part of the body [2 Peter 2:1], but I doubt that. I do believe that satan has “In whom the god [satan] of this world hath blinded the minds [because people have failed to adhere to Romans 12:1-2] of them which believe not [because of willful ignorance], lest the light of the glorious gospel [1 Corinthians 15:1-4] of Christ, who is the image of God [Colossians 1:16], should shine unto them [John 3:19-21].” 2 Corinthians 4:4.
Matthew 3:11-12 Authorized (King James) Version: “I indeed baptize you with water [one] unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost [two], and with fire [three]:” three baptisms in one verse. Supporting scriptures are Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33 and elsewhere. But Paul [Ephesians 3:1-4] tells his readers 4:4-6 “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” tells us believers there is “one” baptism. Is this a contradiction in scripture? No, but it is God dealing with man in a different way [a different dispensation; Ephesians 3:1-13] One should then ask what is that one baptism? “ For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:13. Why should the Holy Spirit baptize one into the one body? Because “ That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” Ephesians 1:12-13.
Rightly dividing isn’t a perchance endeavor but necessary for the child of God to live as God has designed life to be lived; times past, but now or ages to come, where are you living? Go to Biblegateway.com and enter 2 Timothy 2:15. Then below the verse hit translations and see how many different ways publishers use the different phrases to get around others copyrights concerning new publications. You decide, but I would hope that one would use and read the one God gave us [KJV] and not what man uses for profit.
