2 Corinthians 5:21 [Authorized King James Version]: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
Sometime back, many years ago, had a T-shirt that read: "The righteousness His righteousness requires is the righteousness His righteousness requires Him to require". That's a mouthful but after reading a few times it starts to make sense when viewed with spiritual eyes in light of scripture.
Man in all his pomp and ceremony, all his books and intellectual assent only shows complete ignorance and foolishness. "The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?" Eccl 10:12-14
1 Corinthians 1:18. "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures" 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
"For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." 1 Corinthians 1:21
"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:3
Man must see his wretchedness in what God has said of man. Man must see God, as best as he can, see God in all His glory, majesty, graciousness, love, justice and any other attribute given in scripture. Then as the Holy Spirit magnifies that man's sin, his weakness, his inability, his futility, his apathy, admit his condition that he can't but God has and believe. Believe all that God has provided to man in Christ Jesus and be made new in Christ.
Made new: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17
Forgiven: "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;" "In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:" Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:14 respectfully.
Baptized: "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." 1 Corinthians 12:13.
Eternally sealed: "In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory." Ephesians 1:11-14
Those and other conditions of position are incurred in the moment of belief. Belief only; nothing added or subtracted, to be completely enthralled by, in and of God in the moment of that belief. But be sure that that belief is not in vain as Paul gives: "unless ye have believed in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:2b. "There is a way which [or] that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25, respectfully.
note: there are a precious few passages given in all of scripture that is redundant in context, meaning, emphatic in truth, these are ones of those. See the above-given scripture of Ephesians and Colossians concerning where one's forgiveness is at, in Him not in you 1 John 1:9ing constantly.
