Acts 16:17 (KJV): “The same which followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.”
What is the way of salvation? I think that most of Christendom have missed the “way”. We have conjured formulas, devised prayers, actions of works, all in an effort to come to God, to impress God, to make ourselves desirable to God. But in our good intentions have failed miserably; “By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:2. We have been taught that we must believe in Jesus. What does that mean? To believe in Jesus. Then to answer, replying with John 3:16 or Romans 10:9-10, maybe 10:13 by themselves. “For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.” 1 Corinthians 4:15
What is the road map that the Holy Spirit lays out in scripture as “the way”? To salvation. To start with we are directed to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’ 2 Timothy 2:15. Not as if to study to impress God about us, but to study to see why one is approved unto God. Jesus directed us to in like manner to “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” John 5:39. Luke also writing of Paul saying of those at Berea “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:11. Let’s start.
- “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
- “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23 and “For the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23 agree with God that is true and it applies to you.
- “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22 Believe God in that one is dead spiritually apart from Christ and will die, leaving this physical body.
- “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us [believers] the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 God removed the penalty of sin; “the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23, and offers life John 5:39. That life is to be appropriated “by grace through faith” believing God. But for God to offer life He had to destroy sin, sin that killed us, for if not the next time one would sin one would die again.
- “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. By this one act God has removed sin once forever. “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:13-15
- “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” Corinthians 12:12-13. Immediately at belief one is spiritually baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, not water baptism.
- “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:12-14 “Am immediately sealed by the holy Spirit of promise [God can’t lie Titus 1:2] never to lose salvation, I have His word.
- “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” Ephesians 1:3 Notice where one is blessed and in whom; “heavenly places” and “in Christ”.
Other scriptures showing how once in Christ we are to live and were God sees us now in Christ. Ephesians 2:6, 3:10; Philippians 3:20; Colossians 1:5,12-13, 3:1-4; 2 Peter 1:3-8. One can do word studies and find even more scriptures that verify what one is being “In Christ” “the body” “the church”. “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:32. “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” Colossians 1:27.
