Genesis 2:4 (KJV) “These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,”
First place “LORD” used in scripture Genesis 2:4. The most pronounced wording of King and Lord in all of scripture, “And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS”. Revelation 19:16. Why the difference? if there is only one: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:” Deuteronomy 6:4. Why so many differences in the same name?
i’m quite sure that this may be the most important question Jesus ever asked: “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am”? Matthew 16:15
Here are some variations, different uses of the word LORD: taken from Google asking LORD, Lord, lord: the differences in scripture.
Usage. Using this template {{LORD}} gives "LORD”, the standard translation with small capitals for the Hebrew name for God (יהוה, transliterated as YHWH), as it is translated in the King James Bible and other English Bibles: the LORD. This name is a rendering of the distinctive personal name of the God of Israel.
God is also referred to as supreme. ... Regarding their etymology, God comes from the Hebrew Elohim and the Greek Theos. Lord is a word that comes from Greek, Kurios or Hebrew Adonai. Lord is also related to Old English  word 'hlaford' that means ruler or master.May 23, 2011
As others have noted, “Lord” is a title of respect; “God” is a description, like calling someone a “plumber” (no intent to be disrespectful with that analogy); and “YHWH” or “Yahweh” or “Jehovah” – all attempts to represent the same Hebrew word in English – is God's proper name.
The use of the word LORD, LORD or lord differ from one version to another. You’ll have to decide which one is true and best for you. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Things to consider in the question of which way it, “LORD” should be used? In this question i see the importance of dispensations and there time periods utilized are important to understanding the whole of scripture. My first question was when was the New Testament actually brought in. Was it Matthew 1:1; did that, is that the start of the New Testament? In the Bible i use there is a divider between the Old Testament and New Testament; it reads “The NEW TESTAMENT Of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” Does that make it’s so then, is that the start of the New Testament? “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.” Hebrews 9:14-18. So to me reading that, the New Testament was instituted at His death, burial and validated by the resurrection. By that i understand the New Testament started at the “Resurrection” not Matthew 1:1.
Next note of concern would be: “for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament” Hebrews 9:15b. What were those transgressions under? the first testament. But the “law” given under the first testament was only given to Israel, the Jew and not the Gentile.
“For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for? And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?” Deuteronomy 4:7-8
Words in blue, are given to help edify the text:
“He sheweth his word unto Jacob (Israel; Gen 32:28),his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord.” Psalms 147:19-20
“What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” Romans 3:1-2
“Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;” Romans 9:4
“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” Daniel 9:24
To whom was Daniel writing? “upon thy (God’s) people”. “upon thy holy city (Zion/Jerusalem),” “to finish the transgression” transgression of Hebrews 9:15-16, under law. “end of sins”, “It is finished” John 19:30. “to make reconciliation for iniquity,” To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19. Was it reconciliation for Israel only or “the world unto himself,”? “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law (Israel/Jew/Hebrew): that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world (Gentiles also: everyone, not just Israelite, Jew or Hebrew) may become guilty before God.” Romans 3:19. We now know that “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” What was the result of that sin? “For the wages of sin is death;” Romans 6:23
So what does a dead man need? that’s right, the dead need life, not forgiveness. But sin had to be removed; when one would sin after receiving life, he would die again (Ro 6:23a) and then Christ would have to suffer and die again over and over (Heb 9:22). Why won’t Christ have to die over and over? The Cross!!! “By the which will we are sanctified (set apart) through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:10
Many will teach that “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;” Romans 3:25, that those are all sins up to the cross but after the cross they have to be forgiven after we confess them (Heb 9:22), making our (work/righteousness)) confession necessary to remain in relationship with God (Phil 3:18). To me that negates “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, Also would nullify the gospel. “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
Forgive me, i don’t know how i got so carried away, i can only give what i receive (read the disclaimer) and i do believe it is what He would have me to write.
Back to LORD, LORD, Lord or lord. To Israel then and now, He is the ONE TRUE GOD, given in those Jewish writings as LORD. But why Lord in the synoptic gospels and the rest of the scriptures following: except “And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16. Being LORD to Israel but not for the whole world. This question can only be answered by the Holy Spirit and the one searching “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. One must “rightly divide” when did the Old Testament stop and the New start? Once one puts that question away, the rest falls into place, it all starts fit.
In this “dispensation of the grace of God” Ephesians 3:2: God hath revealed “mysteries” to His body the church: “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:32. Concerning the body as the now true church: “even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” Ephesians 5:23b. ‘And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” Colossians 1:18 with
“Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church.” Colossians 1:24
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10.
Sidebar: God is not one of confusion; (“For God is not the author of confusion” 1 Corinthians 14:33a) it is God’s Holy Spirit that reveals truth to us, who are in Christ (a pre-requisite) before any spiritual knowledge can be revealed to those who are searching the scripture. There are truths that the world can understand: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Now whether the world will believe and accept this universal truth is seen in the world. Then there are spiritual truths only those who are “in Christ” can understand: “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;” 1 Timothy 1:15. The world can read that and think they understand, but do they understand the when, the how and the why? i think not; for if they did they to would believe and be in Christ. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;” and “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 1:18, 23 and 2:14 respectfully. Now to us who are in Christ, truly in Christ, will God show you one thing and me another; an opposing thought? Will a teacher of mathematics reveal mathematical decimal and fraction conversion before He has revealed addition? There is a God instituted progression of knowledge for the one who is in Christ to have revealed, believed and exercised before the next segment of God’s revelations are revealed to that same individual. “Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: and they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.” Luke 18:31-34. Again concerning things revealed and rejected: “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it (“In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.” Romans 2:16), because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. Here i see God”s revealed knowledge revealed, rejected and the outcome. God will by many means allow one to stay in their position (in Christ) until the principles are accepted and believed. God will not let one advance to division, when still lacking understanding and acceptance of the laws of addition and subtraction.
The translators of the KJV version, or the Geneva Bible etc…. Were they all saved? But God still used both saved and unsaved to bring forth His Word to us today, now. So was God’s Lordship revealed to the world in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, James, Peter, Jude ? Yes to those who would believe. Is God’s Lordship revealed now to those who are in Christ? Yes to those who believe. Will God’s Lordship be revealed then to all; yes but not until “And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:14; then all is revealed at the end of time to believer and non-believer. So then LORD to the Israelite, Jew and Hebrew. Lord to those at the 1st advent. “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” in the end.
Jesus now asks you personally; ”But whom say ye that I am?”
LORD Jesus thank You for loving me and giving me Your life. i not only understand and believe who You are, what You have done, that You will return, but that You are my LORD and my GOD in whom i have believed and am in You and You in me, my life. Thank You for loving me allowing me to see what i’m not able to speak but in my heart know, it was revealed to me by Your Spirit. Thank You, in Jesus’s name, Your name Amen . . . . . .
