Today, now, the gospel!

Romans 2:14-16   Authorized (King James) Version:   “For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another; in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.”

Rest assured that Paul’s gospel wasn’t “come to Jesus”; “accept Jesus and be saved”; “Just pray this prayer, Jesus: and then repeat whatever the one telling you to say says.  “Jesus died for all your sins, believe and be saved”.  On and on it goes but rarely does one hear the gospel let alone read for themselves what Paul teaches in scripture of the gospel.  The gospel also isn’t the first four books of the new testament.  The gospel isn’t John 3:16.  But what is the gospel that Paul teaches today for this “If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:” Ephesians 3:2

So then what is the gospel that is for us today knowing that Paul is the apostle of the Gentiles.  For further study of Paul as the Apostle of the Gentiles read the following: Acts 15; Romans 16:25-26; 2 Corinthians 11:4-5; Galatians 1:6-10, 2:2;  1 Thessalonians 1:5; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17; 1 Timothy 1:11.  If there be doubt I suggest going to 2 Peter 3:15-18 to see what the Apostle Peter says of Paul’s teachings and of “that gospel”.   One needs to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15; [suggest read all of the context starting in verse 14 and reading through verse 26]

Sidebar:  Don’t read a single passage and from that design your own doctrine.  But read in context as a verse to chapter to book to testament and testament to the whole of the Bible, which is God’s salvation plan for man is this time.  See Isiah 28:7-13 for scriptural support and rightly dividing all scripture.

So then what is the gospel?  “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;  by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Sidebar:  Verse 2b reads ‘if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.”  One must ensure that one has not believed in vain.  Why else then would Paul [as given by the Holy Spirit in 2 Timothy 3:16-17] present that fact in verse 2 if there wasn’t those who have and had believed in vain; think it through.   Remember that it is God’s Word that we have in our hands which is given [not gave but given, its alive and Holy that we hold dear or should] to man by the Holy Spirit which was delivered to us through men as He gave.

note: the 15th chapter of 1 Corinthians is the resurrection chapter as Hebrews 11 is the faith chapter.  Pay particular attention to 1 Corinthians 15:17.  I have over the years when asking those who confess Christ and say that they are born again. Today we are a “new creation” 2 For 5:17 not born again, that’s Jewish doctrine; Jesus with Nicodemus in John 3:1-21;  know the difference in meaning between the words ye and thee as seen in the King James.   They will most often say “Well that Christ died for our [not my sin] sins.”  I’ll ask for book, chapter and verse and few know but retort “It’s in there somewhere.”  But what does 1 Corinthians 15:17 say?  Go read it and remember that verse in support of 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, when presenting the gospel for today.

Believe God

Galatians 2:16  Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV): “ K nowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Why is it so hard for man just to believe God?   Most don’t even believe that He is.   “But without faith  it is  impossible to please  him:  for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and  that  he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6.   All God has ever wanted from man was just to be believed.   But as with Adam and Eve in the garden; “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”   2 Corinthians 4:4.   Why the ...

Rightly divided or handling ???

2 Timothy 2:14-16     Authorized (King James) Version:   “ Of these things put  them  in remembrance, charging  them  before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit,  but  to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane  and  vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” There is in the military a directive that when one receives conflicting orders one will follow the last order given.   Really that makes a lot of sense to one who has sense, but therein lies the rub. Background:   the phrase above in verse “15” reads “rightly dividing the word of truth”.   Modern versions will read “rightly handling” instead of “dividing”.   Those two words have different meanings as seen in Hebrews 4:12 “even to dividing asunder”.   If a person d...

Risen? really; who said.

1 Corinthians 15:17 [AKJV]:   " And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins." When questions are asked of others, like;   "Why do you think you are saved?" or "Where will you go when you die?".   "How do you have assurance of eternal life?".   When I ask these and other questions concerning one's eternal condition I will get a multitude of replies.   Although to many to write out here but the number one response is generally that "Jesus died for our sins."   Very seldom is the reply followed with and arose the third day.   The gospel that we are saved by to day is mostly incomplete when witnessed to others.   The resurrection is also important as given by Paul to us today.   "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, un...
