Personal thoughts of capital punishment

Matthew 16:26 (KJV) “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

I believe the connotation is that a man’s soul is more important than all the riches of the world.  The question was “What will a man exchange for”, and put in what ever subject one wants.

So then I ask;  why would a truly in Christ, in the body of Christ, a sealed believer support capital punishment?  Is not any persons eternal destination worth keeping open until God puts it to an end.  Let's take Jeffery Dahmer, the Milwaukee Cannibal.  Sure what he did was horrific, no excuse, but was his life of so little value that the death sentence should have been given.  Does not that one on death row needs the opportunity to come to Christ.  What is the cost in relation to the curse of eternal separation from God for all eternity?

Don’t confuse the issue, lock them up till they die in confinement of natural causes, sure its a drain on society.  But compared to eternity is it all that long?  I’m not condoning letting them off, but when executed its over for ever.  What does that say of those of us who are in Christ?  Does it not say that we think we are more than they?  That we deserved salvation but they deserve eternal separation from God.

God is surely merciful to mankind in that we are unable to comprehend eternity.  If a pear could understand eternity, comprehend no end, truly that would scare one most possibly to death.  So if that was the case would that then be believing God and taking Him at His Word?  That wouldn’t be salvation by grace but by fear.

But we fellow Christians are most negligent in that we by faith do know and remain mostly quite, shame on us.  Could that lack of testifying as Paul showed: “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;  to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”  2 Corinthians 5:18-19, be one of our judgements spoken of in:  “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10,  I think so.

Sidebar:  In that passage 2 Corinthians 5:10, try reading apart from the italics.  “For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ;  that everyone man receive the things in body, according to that he hath done, whether good or bad.”  That word “body is multi-faceted;  Strong’s #4983.  Where it speaks this:  “(IV) Spoken figuratively for a body, meaning whole, aggregate, collective mass, as spoken of the Christian Church, the whole body of Christians collectively, of which Christ is the head.”  Is then what I give a possibility as to the “body” being such?

One will have to make up their own minds:   Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:12-13.  “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
Galatians 6:10.  Keep professing the Gospel that men may come to God, Jesus for life.  What is that gospel?  “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”  1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Rightly divided or handling ???

2 Timothy 2:14-16     Authorized (King James) Version:   “ Of these things put  them  in remembrance, charging  them  before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit,  but  to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane  and  vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” There is in the military a directive that when one receives conflicting orders one will follow the last order given.   Really that makes a lot of sense to one who has sense, but therein lies the rub. Background:   the phrase above in verse “15” reads “rightly dividing the word of truth”.   Modern versions will read “rightly handling” instead of “dividing”.   Those two words have different meanings as seen in Hebrews 4:12 “even to dividing asunder”.   If a person d...

God's good pleasure in you

Philippians 2:13 (KJV)   “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of  his  good pleasure.” It is our responsibility to allow God to be God in our lives; we needn’t worry of our situations, we need to learn:   “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”   2 Timothy 1:12.   What things do we suffer?   Does it matter, really in the light of eternity what is our present suffering, large or small:   “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time  are  not worthy  to be compared  with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”   Romans 8:18.   Do we not have a promise from God concerning trails:   “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God  is  faithful, w...

Whose faithful?

"God is faithful,"  1 Cor 1:9;  "But the Lord is faithful,"  2 Thess 3:3;  " I'm sure not but He is.  When I fail He doesn't, He is faithful.  When I'm distraught, being weak in faith, He is faithful.  I will, can, must depend upon Him in all that I do; Looking for that blessed hope, the soon appearing of my great God and Savior, the LORD Jesus Christ.  He is my life, for I was crucified with Christ and risen, I no longer live now, but the life I now have is by His faithfulness to me that I have my being.  He is faithful to Himself, He can't deny Himself.  He is faithful to His Word that He cannot be separated from. I'm not in Him by anything I could have done, its all His work, it's all about Him and none of me; it came as a gift, a free gift.  I can't take pride in anything,  but to glory in Him.  For all things were made by Him and for Him, in Him all things are. It's impossible for Him to lie, in Him is no dark...
